Most AI-visibility plugins do three things: generate schema.org markup, submit a sitemap, and add an llms.txt file. That is the foundation layer — necessary but not sufficient. No plugin currently runs buyer-intent questions across six assistants, measures presence per market, detects and corrects factual errors, or analyses the citation neighbourhood that drives an AI answer. Plugins solve the cheapest 15% of the problem. SimplyAI solves the remaining 85%.
What builder plugins actually do #
Website builders (Wix, Squarespace, WordPress, Shopify) and their plugins claim to "optimize for AI" or "get cited by ChatGPT." In practice, most do one or two of these:
- Generate schema.org markup (Article, LocalBusiness, FAQPage) automatically.
- Submit a sitemap to Google Search Console.
- Add an llms.txt file.
That is the foundation layer — it is necessary but not sufficient. No plugin at plugin-tier currently:
- Runs buyer-intent questions across 6 assistants.
- Measures presence per market (HK surface vs overseas/inbound).
- Detects and corrects factual errors an assistant states about you.
- Analyses your citation neighbourhood (which directories and sources the assistant draws from).
Limitations of plugin-based AI optimization #
Plugins operate on the website alone. AI citation is determined largely by third-party sources — directories, review platforms, press coverage. A plugin cannot:
- Monitor what an assistant actually says about you after submission.
- Handle market-by-market differences (a Wix plugin serves one global surface).
- Identify when a model states an outdated price or wrong practice area.
- Produce the kind of data SimplyAI's audit reports — share of AI recommendations, before/after, per surface.
When a plugin is the right fit #
Plugins work well for:
- Very small, low-consideration businesses — a solo trader with no planned AI visibility budget and a basic need for schema markup.
- Baseline compliance — when the goal is simply "be retrievable" rather than "be recommended".
When SimplyAI is the right fit #
SimplyAI is right when:
- The business is high-value (high client lifetime value, considered purchase, reputation is the deciding factor).
- The business operates in or serves Hong Kong and needs per-market measurement.
- The business needs factual-error correction and citation-neighbourhood analysis.
- The business wants a monthly trend line, not a one-time schema generate.
The honest framing #
Plugins solve the cheapest 15% of the problem. SimplyAI solves the remaining 85%. They are not competitors — a plugin is the foundation, SimplyAI is the measurement and remediation layer on top.
